Hubert Ebner (India) Pvt. Ltd. (HE) is an Indo-Austrian venture set up to address the subject of Road Safety in India. World-wide, road accidents alone contribute to over 1.3 million deaths. India too has its fair share of accident deaths. During the year 2010 there were around 4.4 lakh road accidents which killed 1,37,285 people and injured more than 5 lakh persons in India. These astounding numbers are not just mere statistics but translate into a much grimmer fact, that of one road accident every minute and one road accident death every four minutes in Indian road conditions, which increased at the rate of 11.3% from the previous year. More than 75% of these are the most vulnerable road users like pedestrians, cyclists, scooterist and motorcyclists. Until something drastic is done these figures will keep on increasing manifolds with the increase in high-technology vehicles and complemented handsomely by our poor road and traffic conditions. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has stepped in to term this as a serious public health issue to be tackled on a war footing as one would, a major disease. It is possible to significantly curtail this menace by creating awareness and by specialised training to drivers of all kinds of vehicles and other road users thereby inculcating the sense of defensive driving and to build up a sense of respect for abiding by the laid rules in road safety and traffic management. Our principals in Austria have proven their expertise in the said field for over three decades in creating and conducting road safety programs successfully. They are pioneers in the development of interactive and net-based learning systems as well as a full-scale graduate course. They work in close tandem with the Austrian Government and are market leaders in Austria and Germany.
