Hudson Eye Physicians and Surgeons, LLC evolved from the practice of Alfonse A Cinotti, MD.
Dr Alfonse Cinotti began his practice in a small office on Beach Street in the Heights section of Jersey City in 1950. He later moved his office to the Seton Hall Medical School, located at Jersey City Medical Center, where he became chief of the department of Ophthalmology. In the late '60s UMDNJ was founded and the Seton Hall Medical School closed. Dr. Cinotti became chief of the Department of Ophthalmology while continuing in his busy Jersey City Practice. Dr. A Cinotti was a past president of the American Society of Ophthalmology. Dr Cinotti retired in 1992, but still serves the community as an ophthalmologist in a clinic in Florida.
The practice that Dr. Cinotti started continued to grow and in 1974 Barry Maltzman, MD, completed his residency and joined Dr. Cinotti in practice.The practice became known as Hudson Eye Physicians and Surgeons. The office was located in the Clinic Building of the old Jersey City Medical Center on the 9th Floor. In 1980 the practice took over the newly renovated space on the 14th floor. In 1981 Donald Cinotti, MD joined the practice at the completion of his residency at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. In 1985, William Constad, MD joined the practice after completing a fellowship in Cornea and External diseases with Dr Jorge Buxton at New York Eye & Ear Infirmary. The practice continued to grow and in 1989 plans were developed to move to a new building at 600 Pavonia Avenue. The office opened in June of 1991. Our retinal specialist, Dr. Cesar Pitta joined us in 1995. The Millburn location was added in 2004, and the practice of Ophthalmology Associates of Millburn (Donald Greenfield) joined us in 2005. In 2006 Joanna Pruzon, D.O. joined us in the practice of comprehensive ophthalmology. In the fall of 2006 we expanded and completely renovated the office space in Millburn. This was completed in November of 2006. In July 2010 Dr. Walsman joined the practice after completing a fellowship in Glaucoma and the Harkness Eye Institute of Columbia University. In May of 2015, Hudson Eye Physicians & Surgeons merged with the Bayonne Practice of Dominick Benedetto, MD. Dr Benedetto, who has been in practice for over 30 years continues to see patients in that location on Avenue B in Bayonne. In August 2016 Steven Greenstein joined us in the practice of Corneal and Refractive Surgeries and External Disease. His primary location will be the Bayonne office, but will also see patients in Jersey City and Millburn.
