Founded in 2008, Hume Atelier is committed to supporting climate and social justice. We work extensively in international policy, education and social venture to build sustainable peace-based economies. Hume Atelier has consulted on the development and launch of Fairtrade and Fairmined gold. We have collaborated with the US State Department, the US Agency for International Development, and the Harvard Graduate School of Design. Hume Atelier has presented on artisanal mining at the World Bank, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, and the United Nations. We have worked with miners, government, community leaders and professors in South America and Africa, and have taught ethical sourcing in design at the Pratt institute and the Rhode Island School of Design.
Hume Atelier collaborated on EXTRACTION, the award winning Canadian Exhibition of the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale. A 9oz solid gold Fairmined mining stake, constructed by Hume Atelier, was the centerpiece of the multimedia exhibition which explored the relationship between colonialism, First Nations and the Canadian global resource empire.
