Hungarian Baptist Aid Overview

Hungarian Baptist Aid is a humanitarian relief organisation – registered priority charity in Hungary – providing aid, relief, humanitarian and spiritual assistance for the needy, vulnerable, socially outcast in order to ease their difficult situation, striving to create an opportunity for a more human life to live, regardless of nationality, race, religion, political or social affiliation of the beneficiaries. HBAid – beyond general provision of aid and relief – specializes its professional activities towards the physically or mentally challenged or disabled, refugees, homeless, drug addicts, HIV/AIDS victims, natural disaster victims. HBAid subscribing to the principles of the Code of Conduct acknowledges and confirms that the humanitarian imperative comes first, aid is given regardless of the race, creed or nationality of the recipients and without adverse distinction of any kind and aid priorities are calculated on the basis of need alone, furthermore aid will not be used to further a particular political or religious standpoint. HBAid furthermore uses the Sphere project Minimum Standards in Disaster Response when responding to needs in a disaster situation and providing humanitarian assistance. Since its foundation in 1996 Hungarian Baptist Aid has grown to become the largest professional aid agency in Hungary, and in a survey of the European Union Hungarian Baptist Aid is named among the four major Hungarian civil organizations overall. The legal status of HBAid is a registered priority charity („high public benefit” NGO) with 200 full time HQ employees, a further 3000 full time staff in different social and educational institutions and over 3000 volunteers. Hungarian Baptist Aid has been working in Cambodia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Mongolia, North Korea, India, Jordan, Iraq, Western Sahara, Malawi, Congo, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Albania, and Kosovo.
