The 𝗛𝘆𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁 project, funded by FCT, investigates how interspecific gene flow can drive rapid adaptation to changing climates in the Neotropics. Using an integrative approach—combining environmental, phenotypic, and genomic data—we identify traits shaped by hybridization that may enhance resilience.
🌸𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗱𝘀? These ecologically and economically important plants are highly sensitive to climate shifts yet show strong genetic permeability, making them ideal models for studying adaptation. By analyzing phenotypic traits and genome-wide polymorphisms in parental and hybrid species across diverse climates, we aim to uncover genomic signatures of local adaptation.
Our innovative gene-environment association method will help predict areas at risk of climate maladaptation and regions where hybridization enhances species resilience—insights crucial for biodiversity conservation in a rapidly changing world.
