The Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) at VIT Bhopal University has been established under the Ministry of Education (MoE) through MoE’s Innovation Cell (MIC), in collaboration with AICTE, as part of a national initiative launched in 2018 for Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs). The primary objective is to systematically foster the culture of innovation and a start-up ecosystem within educational institutions. The role of IIC is to engage a large number of faculty members, students, and staff in various innovation and entrepreneurship-related activities such as ideation, problem solving, Proof of Concept development, Design Thinking, IPR, project handling, and management at the pre-incubation/incubation stages. These efforts aim to ensure that a strong innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem is established and stabilized within HEIs. The IIC model is specifically designed to address prevailing challenges in HEIs, such as low participation, occasional and unstructured Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E) activities, limited involvement from top leadership, lack of coherence, and poor synergy in resource mobilization. It also addresses the underutilization of the creative potential of youth, which has been identified as a major barrier to the emergence of a vibrant I&E ecosystem from HEIs.
