Done with the hustle bustle of the busy city life, in 2010, four friends decided to venture off to the green patches of Meghalaya to begin farming and engage with nature. Heading from different walks of life, we were sure that we wanted to start something which would amalgamate into one community devoted to nature in its truest and purest form.
We began farming on a small patch of five acres at the initial stage and later grew in size and potential with more people joining our community. We collaborated with the locals and the native people of that area, learnt their farming techniques and synthesized them with our understanding of farming from our younger days. The collaborative community spirit was always at the centre of all our practices and there was a firm consensus among all of us to cultivate and grow the produce organically and naturally. Our community kept growing and in no time we started our first processing unit in 2017 in Guwahati.
After 3 years of processing, in November 2019 we decided to expand our product range amidst the pandemic and “IKAI” which means “the beginning” was born. What started off as a quest initially has now become our conscious effort of building a community, entailing resilience, inclusivity and sustenance of nature and us.
