IMITANA PRODUCTIONS is a film production company based in Kigali, Rwanda. Funded in 2013 by two award-winning filmmakers (Mbabazi Sharangabo Philbert Aimé and Ishimwe Karemangingo Samuel), the company boasts a decade-long collective experience and a portfolio that reaches international acclaim. Our latest films include IMFURA, winner of the prestigious Silver Bear at Berlinale in 2018 while I GOT MY THINGS AND LEFT won the oscar qualifying Grand Prize of Oberhausen in 2019.
Imitana Productions has provided production management and fixing services for a number of International film productions that took place in Rwanda, notably for This Is Football series pilot, now airing on Amazon Prime.
Besides that, we produce works of a new generation of bold Rwandese filmmakers. Our upcoming feature films, Minimals in a Titanic World (to be released in 2024) is a Rwanda/Germany, Cameroon and Cape Verde co-production, whilst IKIMANUKA (in development) is a co-production between Rwanda, France and Cape Verde.
Imitana Productions has also revived and runs the only independent theater in Kigali: The Cine Mayaka by Imitana (built in 1974).
