In accordance with the Bangladesh National Parliament ACT 20/1987 Clause 28-1 (Chha) Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet shall establish an Institute of Modern Languages as a constituent Institute with separate Board of Governors. The institute will function under the executive and academic authorities of the Syndicate and the Academic Council of the University.
Institute of Modern Languages (IML) was established and approved by the 192th Syndicate meeting on April 18, 2015 with the recommendations of 136th Academic Council meeting held on April 15, 2015.
