Our team is co-designed in a collective community model, committed to hosting creative events and audio visual training programs for an abundant and sustainable industry. Co-Founders Tera McDonald, CEO of Kalawikk Diversity Inc. and Tanya Kelen, CEO of Kelencontent Inc., launched the Indigenous Animation Gathering after being inspired by JerryCo Animation’s founder, Jerry Thevenet, who has produced over 250 animated episodes as a producer, writer, and director. JerryCo Animation is Canada’s first 100% owned Indigenous animation studio. Tera McDonald, a two-spirit Mi'Kmaw (St. George’s Indian Band/Qalipu First Nation), leads Kalawikk Diversity Inc. drawing on 20 years of experience in adult education informing their role as a facilitator in Reconciliation-first diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) practice. Now expanding their expertise, Tera is exploring storytelling as a producer, writer, and host across scripted, documentary, and animation sectors, all through the lens of two-eyed seeing. Tanya Kelen is a serial entrepreneur in Film, Television, Transmedia, XR immersive/ edtech digital projects, co-productions, acquisitions and M&A’s. A heart-centered convenor of CoLabs with 20+ years of experience supervising global distribution teams across financing, marketing and production of animation, scripted, comedy and unscripted genres. Ms. Kelen is committed to working with Indigenous talent and communities in allyship to create more jobs and equity for all supporting Call to Action 92. Debuting at the Ottawa International Animation Festival in September 2024 with our inaugural Inspire 7 award, celebrating a lifetime of achievement in Indigenous animation to honour Indigenous creativity, resilience, and innovation, ensuring that future generations of storytellers can see themselves represented on the global stage.
