We started this free program in July 2020 to support Black businesses across the Indy region with storytelling, networking, and marketing.
Why? Black businesses continue to be impacted and permanently closed at a significantly higher rate than any other business during this pandemic. These three areas are ways that we wanted to support our community.
Storytelling is an incredibly powerful tool for getting traction for your business. Stories are personal and help build a personal connection with your audience. Good stories can change attitudes in terms of how people feel, think, act and behave. Stories get read. Digital and social media are saturated with information. People are drawn to visually compelling content. Stories build trust. According to a recent Nielsen survey, 92% of consumers say they trust earned media such as personal recommendations, referrals, WOM, testimonials, media mentions, above other media. Stories can be a differentiator and build a competitive advantage.
Networking is highly underrated in terms of building your social capital. Going after customers one by one is a necessary part of any business but can be tiresome. Your network should also include decision-makers and influencers across the City who can speak on your behalf and share new business opportunities.
Marketing is unavoidable. Especially in this digital world. People expect to easily find your business when they pick up their phone. From a working website to current social media, customers demand instant access to things they want and need.
