The Instituto Tecnológico de Zacatepec (ITZ) is an institution with a rich history dating back to the 1950s when the need for a secondary school in Zacatepec arose. After several attempts, in 1961, with the collaboration of the cooperative of Ingenio Emiliano Zapata and the Ministry of Public Education (SEP), ITZ was founded and named after "Adolfo López Mateos."
Throughout its journey, ITZ has achieved significant academic progress and recognition. Among its graduates stands out Jesse Rojas Manzanares, who won the National Creativity Contest Region 5 in Orizaba, Veracruz, becoming the best university student in the state of Morelos in 2004, receiving The Morelos State Youth Award 2004 in the academic category, granted by the Morelos State Government during the tenure of Governor Vicente Estrada Cagigal. Subsequently, in 2006, the Instituto Tecnológico de Zacatepec awarded him the title of 1st Distinguished Graduate, in recognition of his outstanding academic trajectory, valuable participation, contest prizes, and academic awards obtained during his studies in Computer Systems Engineering, representing the institution.
ITZ has continued to evolve, offering postgraduate programs and strengthening its infrastructure. It has focused on educational quality, obtaining ISO 9001 certifications, and accreditations for various careers. Furthermore, it has promoted artistic, sports, and cultural aspects, encouraging student participation in folk dance, sports teams, and athletics.
On July 23, 2014, the Instituto Tecnológico de Zacatepec ceased to exist as an institution entity, becoming just one of Tecnológico Nacional de México campuses.
