O Instituto Akatu é uma organização não governamental sem fins lucrativos que trabalha há mais de 20 anos pela conscientização e mobilização da sociedade para o consumo consciente, um consumo com o melhor impacto, sem excessos nem desperdícios, para que haja o suficiente, para todos, para sempre. Esta é uma maneira de definir sustentabilidade, com atenção especial para o modelo de consumo. Só haverá o suficiente para todos e para sempre se cada um consumir somente o suficiente para o seu bem estar e não mais do que o suficiente. Aliás, como disse Gandhi, “A Terra provê o suficiente para as necessidades de todos os homens, mas não para a voracidade de todos". Akatu Institute was founded in 2001 as an NGO that endeavors to make consumers aware about the importance of conscious consumption. We believe that conscious consumption means to consume with better impacts , avoiding over consumption, in order to have enough, for everyone, forever. This is a way of defining sustainability, with special attention to the consumption model. There will only be enough for everyone and forever if each consume only what is enough for your well being and not more than that. In fact, as Gandhi once said, "Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's needs, but not every man's greed".
