The International Confocal Group (ICWG) was founded in February 2008 in San Antonio, Texas (US) by Salvador Gonzalez (president), Giovanni Pellacani (secretary), Susana Puig (treasurer) and Josep Malvehy (vocal) with the aim to promote the adoption of confocal microscopy in clinical practice, collaboration in research, education and innovation in confocal microscopy for diagnostics in medicine.
The ICG is an international collaborative group integrated by physicians in different medical specialties, researchers and companies involved in confocal microscopy in medicine.
Since 2008, the ICG organized international scientific conferences, workshops and three World Congresses of confocal microscopy.
The ICG collaborates with other international societies in skin imaging such as the International Dermoscopy Society (IDS), and the ISIC (International Skin Imaging Collaboration), the DICOM Dermatology Group and the Cutaneous Imaging Expert Resource Group of the American Academy of Dermatology (CIERG).
