Irish Taekwon-Do Association Overview

Irish Taekwon-Do Association is the organisation responsible for the development and promotion of ITF Taekwon-Do in Ireland in accordance with Government Sports Policy and is recognised, as a member of the Irish Martial Arts Commission (IMAC), by the Irish Sports Council and the Irish Government. The association was founded under the name All Ireland Taekwon-Do Association (AITA) in 1984 and operated under that name for 22 years. The association's name was changed to Irish Taekwon-Do Association (ITA) on 13th May 2006 when Ireland’s Allied National Associations (ANAs) merged. Irish Taekwon-Do Association is a member of the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF). Irish Taekwon-Do Association is also a member of the Irish Martial Arts Commission (IMAC) which is the Government recognised National Governing Body (NGB) for martial arts in Ireland. The objectives of the Irish Taekwon-Do Association are to strengthen, practice, promote and spread ITF Taekwon-Do to people throughout Ireland regardless of religion, race, national or ideological boundaries and in accordance with the tenets of Taekwon-Do. The association is a democratic organisation with clear goals. Such goals include; supporting the needs of its members, coordinating Taekwon-Do activities such as exhibitions, competitions, training camps and seminars, setting and maintaining high quality standards in both technical matters and teaching syllabus, liaising and collaborating, where possible, with other affiliated organisations and providing support and guidance for members.
