Fermentemptations is a blog about the adventures and explorations of a growing group of fermentation enthusiasts. You may not find much information on beer styles and fancy brewing math but you will find recipes and information on brewing with herbs, spices, fruits, and vegetables–and we’re not just talking beer! Ale, mead, wine, kombucha, kefir, you name it, we probably have tried brewing it.

We're a rag-tag group of folks in the process of expanding our knowledge and practice of the arts of foraging, herbalism, fermentation, DIY, permaculture and rewilding. Favorite activities include hiking through trails and forests, wild-gathering ingredients, and reading lots of great books. In our down time, we enjoy consuming our fermented creations and planning our escape from the modern world.
There are many reasons to brew without boiling. Perhaps you are an eater of raw(er) foods. Maybe saving on electricity or fuel costs is a factor. Whatever the reason, this zine is intended as a gentle guide to making a few simple recipes with no boiling involved. No-boil brewing is simple. In fact, it’s what our ancestors did for countless millenia. Many cultures still ferment raw alcoholic beverages. If you're already a brewer you might be thinking, “wait a minute, you have to boil before you add yeast, otherwise you’re going to get bacteria and your beverage will taste no good."
