TNO and Ventolines in 2023 launched a consortium of major energy companies in offshore wind and hydrogen for a Joint Industrial Program (JIP) for Dutch Demo 1 – Offshore Green Hydrogen (waterstof) Production. Today, Hippo (Hydrogen Industry Pilot Project Offshore) is an R&D JIP consortium for the major energy companies.
Demo 1 is a program to deliver learning objectives (TNO) for the sector through a 30 - 50 MW pilot to be installed in 2030. The program 100% funded by the Dutch government (380 Mio euro). An additional 150 Mio euro funding is provided for GasUnie and Tennet to deliver the infrastructure for DEMO1.
Hippo JIP DEMO1 Offshore Hydrogen R&D Program is working to deliver to the requirements of the government to start the workstreams of project in September 2025.
