Journalists' Charity

Journalists' Charity company information, Employees & Contact Information

The Journalists' Charity gives practical support to struggling journalists across all sectors of the UK media industry. Formerly known as the Newspaper Press Fund, the charity was set up in 1864 by Charles Dickens and a fellowship of parliamentary writers who wanted to protect those that provided political challenge on behalf of society. Over 150 years later and the journalism industry has developed. It continues to hold the powerful to account and keep the nation informed, entertained, connected, and represented, though today it does so across a widening variety of media outlets and platforms. From print to digital and broadcast, the charity regards all journalism as an integral part of its democracy and therefore stands ready to provide financial and welfare support to all struggling journalists (and their families) who contribute or who have formerly contributed to the industry. In Spring 2021, the Journalists' Charity also created a new scheme to go alongside its long-standing support services, this time aimed specifically at helping new journalists on their first rung of the career ladder. The First Jobs Fund offer journalists in their first 2 years of work financial assistance, supporting them to cover some of the essential costs associated with starting out in the profession, including accommodation, travel, and equipment expenses. You can become a free supporter of the charity, by joining the Journalists’ Charity database and following the Journalists’ Charity on their social media platforms. All links can be found here- https://linktr.ee/JournalistsCharity. As of June 2021, all Journalists’ Charity beneficiaries (including recipients of the First Jobs Fund) can opt-in for a free 12-month membership to Tortoise media. The Journalists’ Charity welcomes new partnerships from across the media industry. Contact Outreach Manager, Ellen Bramley (ellen.bramley@journalistscharity.org.uk) if you would like to discuss collaboration opportunities.
