The Kamloops Museum and Archives (KMA), originally founded in March 1936 as the Thompson Valley District Museum and Historical Association, is dedicated to preserving the rich heritage of the region. It first opened on July 1, 1937, in a log cabin built by the Hudson's Bay Company and reassembled in Riverside Park. Since its inception, the museum has curated a diverse collection, including photographs, Indigenous artifacts, pioneer materials, and gold rush memorabilia.
In 1957, the museum secured a permanent home on Seymour Street and Second Avenue, with a three-floor building that houses the growing collection. In 2007, the Kamloops Museum Association dissolved, and the City of Kamloops took over its administration.
The museum's collection spans the region's history from 1812 to the present, featuring archival materials like papers, maps, journals, photographs, and films. It also gathers materials from surrounding towns without their museums, ensuring a comprehensive preservation of local history.
