I believe in the #PromiseofDenver. It’s what I came looking for, and found, when I came to Denver more than 36 years ago. And it’s what I seek to return to Denverites as Mayor of Denver.
Over the past three decades, I have worked in the public, private and nonprofit sectors transforming the landscape of the city I love. I have played key leadership roles in the City of Denver, as staff analyst for city council, as head of the city’s human resource department, and ultimately as chief of staff to then Mayor Hickenlooper. As chief of staff, I balanced the budget during tough financial times and helped lead the city through the Democratic National Convention.
As the first female president and CEO of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, I continued to shape Denver. During nearly a dozen years leading the Chamber, I focused on delivering great jobs for Coloradans, supporting small business, better preparing our kids for the future, and increasing access to economic opportunity for all.
I have lived many of the challenges Denverites face. As a single mother of two amazing daughters, I know first-hand the struggles of many working families.
My dad was killed when I was an infant. Later, when my stepfather was injured on the job, my family needed assistance from time to time in order to make ends meet.
I also know the suffering and loss that can come from addiction and issues
surrounding mental wellbeing.
These personal and professional experiences give me a unique and thoughtful perspective on the challenges we face today. This experience, combined with my collaborative nature and boundless energy, position me to confront these challenges and rebuild the #PromiseofDenver.
