KOKU is a University of Manchester spin out company and an award winning platform founded by Prof Emma Stanmore. The platform provides self-managed health care for older adults and NHS approved preventative treatment for health & social care commissioners.
The digital platform provides gamified individual activity through to telehealth engagements and cross-population insight.
Incorporating 20+ yrs of research, KOKU is based on health behaviour change theory and the proven OTAGO/FAME falls prevention exercise intervention programmes. Trials in Greater Manchester, Nottingham and Texas found KOKU is viewed positively by older adults and objectively found to have high usability with improved outcomes in balance, health status and confidence after 6 wks independent use.
Our embedded behaviour change methods and user-friendly approach also helps older adults to be more aware of healthy ageing practices (e.g. improving bone health, nutrition, hydration and home safety) that promote resilience, prevent frailty, maintain wellbeing and independence. KOKU was co-developed with older people and it is NHS Digital approved as a low risk device, compliant with regulatory safety standards.
We provide our software as a service to health and social care providers, all of whom face the challenges of treating an increasingly ageing population. KOKU provides a self-manageable, low cost, scalable solution, eliminating waiting lists for clinicians. It has a proven ROI for NHS, Local Authorities and other health providers - reducing falls, ambulance call outs, A&E assessments and hospital admissions.
