Artist Statement
"I paint moments in nature that reveal to me the deep complexity and the ultimate frailty in the everyday landscape. In this balance, I find an infinite palette of colors, defining lines, and complex moods that come together in nature's ever-changing presence around us. I find my passion in capturing these simple and yet amazing moments on canvas."
A talented and prolific artist, Kathy Scales Adkins enjoys a full and creative life following her dreams and maximizing opportunities to experience new paths.
Born in Metuchen, New Jersey, just outside New York City, she developed a love for the arts in her youth. She worked first in a variety of media before focusing on painting and printmaking while studying for her fine arts degree at Kutztown University in Pennsylvania.
After completing her studies she traveled extensively throughout Europe experiencing first hand, the art and landscapes that she fell in love with while studying in school. Settling in Atlanta full time in 1981, her creative passions led to interesting and challenging careers in photography and then product design. In 2006 when the opportunity arose, she traded in her professional life as Creative Director at Cavanagh Group International to pursue full time, her passion, landscape painting.
Her unique vision of color, passion for nature, and the spatial relationships found in its vistas provide an endless array of subject matter to fill her canvases. "Color has always been the ultimate definer of energy in my work, both on canvas and in the garden.
