Labour Women’s Network was founded thirty-five years ago to secure women’s equality in the Labour Party. We are the only official women's affiliate to the Labour Party. A membership organisation and Socialist Society, our membership figures are currently at a record high.
Through the LWN Political School and the Jo Cox Women in Leadership Programme, we train and empower women to change the culture of their local parties, stand for public office and be ready to lead. We are proud to have trained a significant proportion of the Women's Parliamentary Labour Party, including Rachel Reeves, Angela Rayner and Thangam Debbonaire, as well as women at all levels of office across the country. In the part 18 months we have also launched commissioned regional Labour women’s leadership schemes in Eastern, West Midlands and South East, as well as the inaugural Chris Herries Development Programme with the Co-Operative Party. We have just launched the Yorkshire and Humber Regional scheme.
LWN campaign for necessary changes in Labour’s policy, practice and culture, with recent successes including making Labour’s parliamentary selections shorter and cheaper, making Labour events safer for women, and working with LGA Labour to roll out parental leave policies for councils. We are also campaigning to embed hybrid working long-term in Labour’s practice as we push to #KeepTheGoodStuff from the pandemic, and to #DiffuseAbuse against women in public life. We recently launched our #LocalGovernment4ThisMillennium campaign looking at practical ways to correct the women’s leadership gap at council level.
We believe in sisterhood no matter your shade of red, and aim to bring diverse Labour women together to make our voice heard.
