The New Castle County Department of Land Use is committed to promoting responsible development that is fair, environmentally-sustainable, and meets the present and future needs of our residents. The Department accomplishes this through sound land use planning and regulation of all new and existing development in unincorporated New Castle County, including enforcement of regulations governing building codes, zoning, environmental and stormwater codes and property maintenance. Working with the community, we are preserving our unique heritage while simultaneously charting a course for the future.
The Department is engaged in a broad spectrum of processes and activities such as: reviews of proposed development, building permits, contractor licensing, inspection of construction, property maintenance enforcement, stormwater management regulations, and agricultural preservation.
