LE STANZE DEL VETRO is a cultural project and permanent exhibition space located on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice, established in 2012 as a joint initiative between ๐
๐จ๐ง๐๐๐ณ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ ๐๐ข๐จ๐ซ๐ ๐ข๐จ ๐๐ข๐ง๐ข and ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ ๐ซ๐๐ฆ ๐๐ญ๐ข๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐ง๐ and dedicated to the study and promotion of modern and contemporary glassmaking. The project aims to bring glass back to the centre of attention and discussion on the international art scene, illustrating the countless potential uses of the medium.
Since 2012, numerous exhibition projects have been organised, both within the space designed by Annabelle Selldorf Architects on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, and also abroad, with travelling exhibitions created in collaboration with the most important glass collections in the world. All of the exhibitions are accompanied by aโฏcatalogue, as well as free guided tours and education activities for all ages. The exhibition space also houses a ๐๐จ๐จ๐ค๐ฌ๐ก๐จ๐ฉ offering a wide selection of specialist books for experts and lovers of glass art, available both in-store and ๐จ๐ง๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐.
An integral part of the project is the ๐๐ฅ๐๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐, the most important General Archive of Venetian modern glass, established in 2012 as part of the Fondazione Giorgio Ciniโs Institute of Art History, conserving over 250,000 documents and a ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐๐๐ข๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ฌ๐๐ ๐ฅ๐ข๐๐ซ๐๐ซ๐ฒ. The Glass Study Centre, located in the Messina Hall (Sala Messina) on the island of San Giorgio, is engaged in the organisation of workshops, conferences and seminars. It also offers scholarships for researchers and scholars interested in the history, technology and developments of glass art.
