Learn Akan started as an initiative aimed at foreigners to Ghana, especially people from the black diaspora, to reconnect to their homeland through their most spoken language, Akan.
Learn Akan tries to bridge the language barrier between native Akan speakers and all learners of the language regardless of ethnic backgrounds or groups. Now, both foreigners and native Akan people use the app to understand better the language and the culture of the Akan people, providing insights into basic syntax and phrases like family, animals, and numbers together with culturally based concepts or aphorisms like adinkra symbols; among others.
Learners are introduced to the Akan language through an analytic-linguistic approach and an intuitive-imitative system to help learners recognize, pronounce and form simple sentences in Asante Twi (native to the Ashanti tribe of the Akan people). Learn Akan teaches through interactive games and quizzes, which help to keep the learners motivated.
