Our objective is to reduce the taboos of menstruation and to create awareness that this is as natural as the rising of the sun every single day or the cycles of the moon every month. We envision a more just and egalitarian society with regard to gender inequality and more opportunities for menstruators to contribute to the value creation in the society. We would also like to make sanitary pads more affordable and accessible so that menstruators can be comfortable during their periods and follow their normal routines without jeopardising their health.
Societal issues like gender equality and taboos of menstruation are issues that require generations to fully resolve as it raises uncomfortable questions about norms that have been practised in society for centuries. The key to initiating change is to create awareness and educate the young students, both menstruators and non-menstruators.
As part of our mission we:
- Conduct workshops in municipal schools to provide access to important and often hard to reach information about menstruation and adolescence to young menstruators that are about to reach puberty. They are often ill-informed and underprepared as they are not told about what to expect when they start to menstruate. This leaves them very scared when they go through the experience. .
- We publish articles in local newspapers and share content on social media to start a dialogue.
- We encourage people to provide their house help with access to basic sanitary products to lessen the inaccessibility of sanitary products by people at and below the poverty line.
- We organise fundraisers and sanitary napkin donation drives to provide menstruators from underprivileged families with sanitary napkins.
- We collaborate with similar organisations to widen our reach. In the past, we have already collaborated with Project Baala, CMCA, Red is the new green, Project Mumbai Idea of India, Pad Bank etc.
