The Dafydd Lewis Trust (DLT) was founded in 1943 providing a chance at higher
education through funding for those who might otherwise have not been able to attend university. In 1941 he left an estate to be held in perpetual trust to provide scholarships for boys for full-time tertiary study. The Trust was established in 1942 and the first scholarships were awarded in 1943. At the time of its establishment the scholarship was proclaimed as an “advance in the democracy of education”. Years later, the same trustees founded the Mary Jane Lewis (MJL) Scholarship Foundation for young women attending university.
DLT & MJL scholarships provide the financial assistance required to undertake tertiary education as well as a wrap-around supportive community. The DLT and MJL scholarship community also guides and motivates participants by providing access to mentoring, practical advice, financial literacy, a community of like-minded individuals with valuable industry exposure and networking opportunities.
