The Libyan Iron and Steel Company is one of the largest industrial companies in Libya. It covers an area of 1,200 hectares in the city of Misurata, located 210 kilometers east of Tripoli. The company’s designed production capacity is 1,700,000 tons of liquid steel annually, using a direct reduction process of iron pellets with local natural gas. The foundation stone was laid on September 18, 1979, signaling the establishment of Libya’s heavy manufacturing industry. On September 9, 1989, the production units were inaugurated, marking the start of the company’s production phase.
