Clinical expertise, and access to diagnostic facilities are all critical to improving outcomes. Likewise access to antifungal therapies is absolutely necessary for almost all serious fungal infections. The website is also provided in Spanish to facilitate international reach. Public awareness is also important specifically for some diseases such as SAFS and both skin and mucosal fungal infections.
LIFE is led by Professor David Denning who has been caring for patients with fungal infection for over 25 years. He leads the National Aspergillosis Centre, UK and manages a clinical and laboratory research team. He founded the Aspergillus Website (the encyclopaedic on-line resource), F2G Ltd (now developing a novel antifungal agent) and Myconostica Ltd (which pioneered commercial development of molecular testing for fungi) and is the Scientific Director of the Fungal Infection Trust, a UK charitable foundation.
