Little Italy of Los Angeles Association Overview

Over 310,000 people of Italian descent call Los Angeles home. The surrounding region is home to almost a million more. Yet unlike the other cities where large numbers of Italian Americans live, Los Angeles has no Little Italy. The Little Italy of Los Angeles Association (or LILAA), a 501(c)(3) non-profit, aims to change that. LILAA’s mission is to create a central gathering spot to highlight the lives, language, culture, and stories of Italians in Los Angeles. For our location, LILAA has selected a beautiful, waterfront spot in Los Angeles’ San Pedro neighborhood. San Pedro is the last remaining ethnic enclave of Italian Americans in Los Angeles, and our history there dates back over a century. The centerpiece of Los Angeles’ Little Italy will be a magnificent piazza similar to the best in Italy. The current “Pepper Tree Plaza” on the south side of Sixth Street, between Beacon Street and Harbor Boulevard will be the location of our new "Piazza Miramare". This piazza will feature a weekly farmers market, special events and cultural programming! LILAA’s Board of Directors comprises respected leaders of Los Angeles’ Italian- American community. The Board has already received substantial funding commitments from a multitude of sources. Moreover, dozens of people have contributed hundreds of volunteer hours to the effort.
