We opened our venue in Brussels in December 2004, shortly after Hungary’s accession to the EU. Formerly known as the Balassi Institute, now the Liszt Institute, we operate as the Cultural Service of the Hungarian Embassy and we are the most important mediator of Hungarian culture, education and science in Belgium. ▪ we are part of the more than hundred-year-old network of Hungarian Institutes present in 24 countries across the world ▪ we play a key role in cultural diplomacy in Belgium and Luxembourg ▪ we use the tools of culture to strengthen relations between Hungary and Belgium and Hungary and Luxembourg ▪ we promote Hungarian culture and heritage by organizing and supporting a wide spectrum of innovative programmes ▪ through the concerts, exhibitions, movie screenings, dance and theatre performances and literary events we present the diversity of the constantly renewing Hungarian culture ▪ we link up Hungarian and international artists, academics and audiences, and encourage cooperation between cultural professionals, and inspire more people to visit Hungary ▪ we are an active member of EUNIC, the network of European Union National Institutes for Culture ▪ we work regularly in collaboration with Belgian cultural institutions
