Lloyd Cowan Bursary

Lloyd Cowan Bursary company information, Employees & Contact Information

The Lloyd Cowan Bursary was set up in memory of Lloyd Cowan MBE, who believed that no one with sporting potential should be held back by a lack of support and opportunities. The Bursary awards grants of up to £500 once a year to qualified coaches and unfunded athletes aged 16-23, for whom cost is a barrier to accessing developmental opportunities in athletics. Lloyd was an international athlete before hanging up his spikes and becoming one of the UK’s most successful coaches. He guided many leading British sprinters, including World, Olympic and Commonwealth 400m champion Christine Ohuruogu and European and Commonwealth 110m hurdles gold medallist Andy Turner. Tragically, Lloyd died in January 2021, aged 58, after contracting COVID-19. The global tributes that followed Lloyd's death highlighted his positive impact and influence on so many people. Lloyd was legendary in the sport and known for his success in tirelessly guiding, inspiring and instilling belief in athletes and coaches to achieve their potential. The Lloyd Cowan Bursary continues Lloyd's work to advance athletics. Thanks to the generosity of many individuals and organisations, the first recipients received awards in October 2021, just nine months after Lloyd's death. To date, over 160 athletes and coaches have received grants. The Lloyd Cowan Bursary is run by a group of athletics-loving Trustees who were all friends of Lloyd's.
