The Long Beach – Naples Island “Community Emergency Response Team” (CERT) works with the city of Long Beach, the Long Beach Fire Department, using FEMA guidelines to promote emergency preparedness and response through a growing network of resident volunteers.
A program of the Naples Improvement Association, we recognize the challenge we face in the event of a major disaster that could prevent first responders from getting help to us for days. This is where CERT steps in.
CERT provides resources and education to residents on how to prepare their homes, families, vehicles, workspaces, assembling emergency supplies, communications plans, pet care, and more.
CERT also provides training, consistent with other community approaches across the nation, in basic community disaster and emergency response actions such as fire safety, limited basic search and rescue, transporting the injured, and limited first aid to help identify priority issues for professional first responders who could be delayed depending on the severity of the emergency and its location in the city.
