Los Altos History Museum

Los Altos History Museum company information, Employees & Contact Information

Los Altos History Museum welcomes visitors of all ages to explore local history. Nestled in one of Santa Clara Valley's remaining heritage apricot orchards, the Museum offers award-winning exhibitions, community programs, and a picturesque garden for weddings and corporate events. Thanks to the generosity of members and donors, admission is free for all. Multiple exhibition spaces feature artifacts and stories that bring the area’s evolution to life. The family-friendly Permanent Exhibition “Making Connections: Stories from the Land” delivers an immersive, interactive multimedia experience of the events that transformed the landscape and the people who shaped this area, from the Ohlone people, to Spanish & Mexican land grantees, early settlers, apricot growers, and today’s Silicon Valley residents. One highlight is the replica of downtown Los Altos as it looked in 1932, with an actual working model railroad. Outdoors, the agricultural exhibit features a historic tank house showcasing traditional water management techniques, apricot cutting and sulfuring sheds, and a display of farm equipment, including a tractor to climb on. The centerpiece of the complex is the J. Gilbert Smith House, built in 1905 from local redwood. The Craftsman-style Smith House is fully-furnished, depicting life during the Depression. The Museum is open Thursday-Sunday, noon to 4pm.
