Love in Action Project, Inc. is a grassroots 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2010 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Our mission is to combat social isolation and loneliness for underserved populations, including nursing home residents, homebound seniors, and unhoused neighbors, through art and human connection.
Research reveals that these vulnerable groups experience alarming rates of social isolation, leading to increased mortality, neglect, and abuse.
We envision a community where everyone, regardless of age or circumstances, feels included, valued, and experiences meaningful connections that enhance their quality of life.
Our goal is to alleviate the negative effects of isolation through social activities, outreach initiatives, and creative expression, fostering a stronger, more connected community. Community is essential for well-being and belonging.
A hallmark of the Love in Action Project is our handmade cards. These cards foster joy and help ease despair for recipients, combating isolation. To date, we’ve delivered over 80,000 handmade cards and engaged thousands of volunteers in connection and healing.
In response to growing isolation concerns exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, we expanded to 29 cities across 15 states, broadening our outreach efforts. Our six main programs—Love Occupy, Love 300, Operation Save Christmas, Love Pop-Up, #iamloveinaction, and Card Party Host—raise awareness about the epidemic of social isolation and loneliness and their health impacts, focusing on fostering connections within our communities.
