Lovisagruvan AB is a small zinc-, lead-, silver mine located about 250 km west of the Swedish capital Stockholm in the core of the historical Bergslagen mining district. The deposit was discovered in 1985, and full scale underground mining under current regime started in 2005.
The ore is a massive, narrow (<0.8m wide), proterozoic, stratiform sphalerite-galena mineralisation hosted by fine grained meta-volcanoclastic rocks, marbles and skarn and is dipping about 45-60° to the east. The underground mine is a cut-and fill operation with the currently deepest level at 235 meters below the surface. 40.000 tonnes of high grade ore is mined annually. Currently the full production is sold as crude ore to Zgh Bolesław in southern Poland.
