Mahi For Ukraine Overview

After 8 years of russian aggression against Ukraine, on Feb 24th, 2022 Ukrainian civilians once again awoke to the engines of war rolling across their border. Russia is waging an unjust and unlawful war against the peaceful people of Ukraine. Millions of refugees. Thousands are dead. Countless cities and historical sites are destroyed. This is an extremely frightening time for the people of Ukraine and the world at large. War on European soil harks back to a time of horror and geopolitical imperialism not seen since World War II. And it cannot be allowed to win. Aotearoa New Zealand has always stood as a staunch defender of life, peace, democracy, and international law. While Ukraine may be far from our shores, this is not a problem we Kiwis can afford to ignore. New Zealand cannot JUST watch. We must act immediately and consistently do our part in stopping Putin, saving our Ukrainian whānau, and protecting Europe and the civilised world at large from tyranny and imperialism. “Mahi” - is a Māori word that means to work, perform, make, accomplish, practice, and raise money. That is essentially what we have been doing for Ukraine in New Zealand since February 2022 - the work! Mahi for Ukraine - is a cause that aims to help Ukraine and its people in light of russia’s unjust invasion. Who is behind Mahi for Ukraine? – it started with a small group of volunteers, all working professionals, with demanding careers who have united in pursuit of the Mahi for Ukraine cause and has since grown into a movement that works closely with the New Zealand Government agencies, NGOs, NZ-Ukrainian community groups and organisations, as well as New Zealanders all in pursuit of the same cause.
