MANTA is a research Chair of Excellence implemented by the project Energy and Environment Solutions (E2S) from the Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour (UPPA).
MANTA aims at developing novel marine-inspired and sustainable (bio)materials to face current societal problematics related to human health and marine environment degradation.
MANTA's research flow is based on three main topics: exploration of marine biomolecules and biopolymers, valorization of fisheries by-products, and marine biomimetics.
Indeed, the Ocean constitutes a great source of inspiration and unexploited natural compounds with promising physicochemical, structural and biological properties. In this context, MANTA focusses on blue biotechnologies and eco-friendly methodologies for the extraction of biomolecules and biopolymers from marine bioressources and by-products to be then transformed as multifunctional porous structures, films, hydrogels and composite materials for cosmetic, biomedical and packaging applications.
