Manuka Direct’s rare and precious manuka honey comes from Hawke’s Bay on the North Island of New Zealand, where the native manuka tree (Leptospermum Scoparium) thrives and the bees forage the manuka plant. The hives are cared for by experienced and passionate beekeepers in remote and often inaccessible parts of this beautiful region.
Manuka is known to the Maori as ‘the healing honey’ and this genuine artisan quality Manuka honey is often called liquid gold. It has a strong earthy flavour and aroma, and tastes delicious.
Every batch of Manuka Direct Honey is rigorously laboratory tested and fully certified before it is packed and labelled manuka honey. This guarantees its authenticity and only then is it allowed to leave New Zealand.
Manuka Honey has completely natural antibacterial properties which are said to be up to 100 times more effective than ordinary honey. The major antibacterial component of manuka honey is Methylglyoxal which is measured in mg/kg with the higher the number indicating the stronger the antimicrobial activity. Manuka Direct offer three grades: MGO 83+, MGO 263+ and MGO 500+.
