Mardi Confectionery is a small and dynamic company that produces handcrafted cakes since 1978 in Dublin. We produce a wide range of classic dinner table favourites as well as exciting new ideas and tastes. Mardi cakes have been enjoyed in the largest national and multinational companies, and also can still be found in your local coffee shop, sandwich bar, delicatessen or even on the menu of your favourite restaurant. As a supplier, Mardi has an enviable reputation for reliability and quality.
Where did it all begin? Mardi Confectionery was the creation of Raymond McDonough (1953-2004). Tuesday was an auspicious day in his family hence the name ” Mardi” , French for Tuesday. It began in a gate lodge belonging to the Franciscan Monks on Seafield Road Killiney. His life partner David Brett and childhood friend Phil Stokes were persuaded to join him and the first delivery was planned for a Friday September 1971. However due to problems with gas installation this had to be postponed to the following Tuesday. The company flourished, moving to an in industrial premise in 1981. It continued apace through good times and bad aquiring many prestigious customers for it’s French inspired products until May 2016. At that point Thunder’s bakery, owned by Sinead and Stephen Heffernan took it over to continue running Mardi with it’s ethos of delicious handcrafted products.
In 1998 we implemented HACCP in compliance with food safety regulations and to reassure our customers of our commitment to excellence throughout our manufacturing process.
