It is the Mates Brew Room's intention to be a positive yet passive force on work sites all across the UK. We will make work mates aware of our training and our lived life experience in relation to their own mental health and emotional well-being journey.
We will encourage them to seek us out at break times (or any time if needed) to grab a cup of tea or coffee and have a chat. Their role will simply be to listen without judging or advising them what to do. If they want some help then we will signpost them to the relevant services and organisations we are aware of and have used ourselves where possible.
We are not trained clinical or medical people. But we believe that by being available to work mates we can listen, maybe calm them down and show them where to start to get help if that is what they want to do. At the very least they can off-load by sharing to make the rest of their day that little bit easier.
We will have discussed our intentions with all management teams on site. This will include the main contractor, the relevant sub-contractors including the one we will be working for. Only with their awareness and blessing will we offer our support on site. If there are any serious safeguarding issues raised to us via the sharing process then these will be fed back to the relevant main contractor and sub-contractor contacts. We will have made the individual concerned that this upward reporting is going to happen and why explaining it is for reasons of their ultimate safety because of safeguarding worries.
Apart from these instances of reporting due to safeguarding concerns then absolutely everything that passes between us and our work mates will be treated with the strictest of confidence at all times and shared with nobody else on or off site. No written records will be made or kept so there is no concern in terms of GDPR or other such personal information safe keeping.
