I am Maithili, and Mauve Moustache is a journey; my journey.
It started as a blog, promoting self-expression through clothing and poems.
It grew with Instagram, to advocate greener choices, ethical, slow fashion and sustainable living.
Now, it has taken the form of a concept store that encourages you to #consumewithcare. It is dedicated to vintage, pre-owned, upcycled and handmade pieces that are ethical and eco-conscious.
I was raised in a household where nothing went to waste; everything was recycled, reused or donated. The idea of excess didn't exist, only the essentials where purchased, others were made by hand. As I entered my early twenties, I drifted away from these values. New disposable income made consumption, indulging in excess, easy, not knowing the damage done to the environment or fellow humans, who were being exploited. ‘The True Cost’ was my wake up call, which was around 3 years ago. It is when I re-connected with the roots and started my journey towards a greener lifestyle. I have always loved fashion; I still wanted to pursue a career in fashion, but on my terms, with the values that I hold dear.
The goal at Mauve Moustache is to be as eco-conscious as possible. Mauve Moustache sources using public transport hence lower carbon emissions. The packaging is reused, bio-degradable or recycled. The cards are printed on recycled paper, with green technology.
