MAX-T Energy Storage Overview

MAX-T is an applied energy research and innovation project led by The Cyprus Institute (CyI), focused on state-of-the-art thermal energy storage (TES) systems through a novel patent pending, buoyancy-driven pellet-based thermocline barrier. Designed with both technical excellence and industrial scalability in mind, MAX-T aims to amplify exergy retention, reduce system complexity, and remarkably lower the Levelized Cost of Storage (LCOS) in both domestic and high-temperature thermal applications. At its core, MAX-T proposes a disruptive approach to thermocline storage, introducing smart pellet stratification to dynamically control heat layering, reduce mixing, and enable single-tank TES configurations to perform comparably or better than conventional two-tank systems. With a strong emphasis on scientific validation, IP protection and commercialization pathways, MAX-T sets a new benchmark in thermocline-based storage design, offering scalable, exergy-optimized innovations for future energy systems.
