The Deep-space Analogue Research Expedition (DARE) is a McMaster student-led team focused on designing, testing, and deploying systems for off-world exploration, right here on Earth. In 2024, our team explored the Icelandic caves near Surtshellir. Using CANARY, a remote controlled aerial drone system we built, we collected data and mapped cave systems as a simulation for the lunar caves on the moon. This time, we're building BELUGA, an underwater drone with the purpose of taking water samples for analysis from underwater caves as a simulation of Europa, Jupiter's fourth largest moon.
