We are a group of Gold Coast locals who want to see politics done differently. We came together inspired by the community independents who were elected in the 2022 Federal Election and what they have achieved for their communities and to clean up politics since.
Our goal is to find and campaign for an Independent candidate for the next Federal election who truly represents our community.
Why a Community Independent?
We know a Community Independent will help to tackle the two biggest issues we’re facing - a cost of living crisis, and protecting the southern Gold Coast way of life - in ways the major political parties just aren’t.
We’ve been in the hands of a major political party as a “safe seat” for too long - we feel taken for granted by the major parties who are not listening to our concerns and we’re not getting our fair share.
Our Community Independent will MAKE a difference because they’ll BE different.
They will value integrity.
We’re done with politicians looking after their parties and donors instead of us and our futures. We want more transparency and less of the BS and corruption. Every time legislation is passed to benefit politicians and their mates, we - the people they are elected to represent - generally miss out.
They will be a good economic decision maker.
We want to see policies and decisions that fairly benefit us, our families, and our community.
They will think long-term.
Short-term thinking, on issues like climate policy and housing affordability, is already starting to impact our way of life. Summer storms, koala habitats, insurance premiums, household bills - these words fill us with dread, while politicians are filling the pockets of their mates.
We are all united here in McPherson by our love of the beach, hinterland, community, and opportunity of the place where we live - but we need to fight for it. And we can’t depend on the major political parties to do this the way we expect. We want a representative to truly represent us.
