MEDICAL FUTURES DIGITAL is a healthcare innovation & digital platform that connects the dots ensuring the best ideas can change peoples’ lives. The idea for Medical Futures was born by two junior doctors in 1999. Pankaj Maini and Andy Goldberg were conscious that many of the solutions to the world's biggest healthcare issues had stemmed from doctors but for a host of reasons often took 20 years or longer before they reached the bedside. From Penicillin to beta blockers, and hip replacements to coronary stents, game changing medical ideas had been delayed unnecessarily. So in 2000, Drs' Maini and Goldberg set up the Medical Futures Innovation Awards which quickly became regarded as the Oscars of Healthcare with global reach. Global key opinion leaders helped build a process of innovation by peer review and hundreds of opinion leaders became Judges, all keen to offer help and guidance to the up and coming innovators of tomorrow. Between 2000 and 2011, thousands of healthcare ideas went through the Medical Futures process to obtain advice, guidance and peer-review which helped bring unparalleled validation. This process was later used by the BBC in 2005 when they launched Dragon’s Den and Shark Tank in the USA. The Medical Futures Magazine became a trendsetter spotting opportunities and innovations. More than $100m of funding was secured by Medical Futures Innovators and most importantly many went on to become huge successes, changing peoples' lives. In 2011, Medical Futures, closed its doors to the world but led by Martine Morris focused its activities on special projects overseas mainly in the evolving digital arena with bespoke innovation Think Tanks. Then in 2020 a global pandemic made the world wake up and it became clear that never before has there been more of a need for healthcare innovation and creativity to reach patients quicker. So in May 2020, Medical Futures Digital was born, and serves to communicate, educate and innovate.
