Today, we produce about 300 million tonnes of plastic each year across the globe. Rivers carry plastic waste from deep inland to the sea, making them major contributors to ocean pollution. A staggering 8 million tonnes of plastic end up in the world’s oceans every year. Our Company Mega Gas solves this problem by converting unsorted plastic waste into clean and affordable cooking gas through a patented process. Mega Gas's main objective is to convert unsorted waste polythene/plastics that litter the environment into clean gaseous fuel through a thermal cracking process of distillation and compression that creates no emissions, residue, or pollution to the environment. The fuel is harvested into metal cylinders for easy use and handling. In the innovation, we have designed and fabricated equipment which includes; a furnace, a harvester, 2 coolers, and a separator cylinder. The system has a capacity of 10 metric tonnes.
Our target users are women, mostly stay-at-home mums between the ages of 18-40 who are predominantly educated up to secondary level. Most of these users live in low-income areas working in the informal sector such as operating small grocery kiosks. They earn between $1-$3 a day in a household with an average occupancy of 6 people.
