A Safe & Creative Community Space in Lyari by the People of Lyari. Mehr Ghar is open to everyone, regardless of gender, caste, ethnicity, and religion.
About Us:
Mehr Ghar is an Flagship initiative of Mehrdar Art and Production - It is an arts based community space for learning & open dialogue that features a small café space, studio, library, meeting room and event hall where we hosts poetry readings, meetups with writers, talks, debates, theatre performances, film screenings, open mics, jam sessions and standup comedy.
Lyari has experienced the worst violence in the last two decades. People of this area have faced immense trauma, pain, and discrimination. Young people needed “Hope” to build communities and restart their lives. Mehr Ghar is an initiative to build upon that “Hope”
We encourage, empower & engage young individuals, local youth groups, artist community, local stakeholders and community based organization to build the social change through Arts, Creative Expression and Open Dialogue.
The place has become a centre of cultural and intellectual activities that contributing to Sustainable Development Goal 16, focusing on Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
Since March 2021, Mehr-Ghar has hosted hundreds of activities, ranging from trainings/workshops, poetry readings and film screenings, to vibrant debates on critical issue with support and participation of local communities, stakeholders, musicians, asrtists, writers, filmmakers, local leaders.
Mehr-Ghar has contributed to revitalizing Lyari’s Cultural Landscape and has provided an alternative, independent safe community space discourse to local people.
We welcome every organization, universities, companies, donor agencies, activists, scholars, artists and active citizens to come forward, join hands, and support us to unleashing the potential of young people from our community.
