Mensa was founded in England in 1946 by Roland Berrill, a barrister, and Dr. Lance Ware, a scientist and lawyer. Their vision was to create a society for individuals with high IQs, making intelligence the sole criterion for membership. The original goals of Mensa, which remain unchanged today, are to establish a non-political, inclusive community free from racial or religious distinctions. Mensa welcomes individuals from all walks of life whose IQs rank in the top 2% of the population, providing an environment to enjoy each other's company and participate in diverse social and cultural activities.
Mensa has three primary purposes:
